A full leather tool belt with a drop-leg strap - seven pouches, a 14-page pattern printed 1:1, and the complete build filmed from end to end. Three large pouches, four small ones, belt loops, D-rings and swivel snaps. It carries the weight of a working day without sagging.
I built the original for a maker friend to carry her sewing tools, which is the honest test of a tool belt: it has to sit where you left it and give the tool back without looking. Leatherworkers, seamstresses, hairdressers, prop-makers - the pouch layout suits anything you reach for a hundred times a day.
Leather and hardware
Around 0.45 m² (710 sq in), plus whatever the belt and leg strap need for your own size. 2.5 mm / 6 oz vegetable-tanned leather for the belts and parts A and K, 2 mm / 5 oz for everything else. Hardware: a 40 mm belt buckle, a 20 mm buckle, 28 mm swivel snaps, D-rings, rivets and snaps.
Tools
Utility or X-Acto knife, beveler, groover, 4 mm diamond chisel, edge burnisher, hole punch, rivet setter, snap setter, two needles and a cotton dauber. Dye, gum tragacanth, neatsfoot oil, finish, wax and thread for the rest.
Skill level
Intermediate. Eleven pattern pieces, hardware setting and a lot of stitching - this is a weekend project, not an evening one. The seams are saddle-stitched throughout, because a belt that takes weight every day cannot be glued and hoped for. Here is the stitch it calls for.
