My name is Red Smith. I'm a full-time leather craftsman based in France.

From curiosity to a trade

I've been making things from leather since 2007 -  what started as curiosity became a trade. I now specialize in pieces inspired by video games, films, and fantasy universes: cosplay props, LARP gear, holsters, bags, belts, armour, and everything in between. The kind of things you don't find in a shop.

Projects drawn from the worlds I like

I work on long projects, pulled from the worlds I spend time in. Video games, films, sometimes books. I take a character or an object out of one of them and rebuild it in leather, piece by piece. A hat. A coat. A holster. A pair of boots. Every piece is filmed and gets its own video. A project like that runs for months, and there is always one on the bench.

Steel, and the occasional detour into wood

I also work with steel. I forge knives by hand, build the sheaths to match, and occasionally disappear into woodworking when the mood strikes.

The whole build, filmed

On YouTube, I film the full build process -  no shortcuts, no fast cuts, no summary. Just the work, start to finish. If you want to understand how something is made, that's where to look. If you want to make it yourself, the patterns are in the shop.
